Pollen Estate

The Pollen Estate owns 45 buildings in East Mayfair including the significant majority of both Savile Row, the global centre for luxury bespoke menswear tailoring as well as Cork Street, the London home of modern and contemporary art.

Dating back to 1645 when a merchant tailor called William Maddox purchased 35 acres of undeveloped land in East Mayfair for £1450.00, the estate was handed down through many generations until it passed to the Reverend George Pollen in 1764, and then in turn to his five daughters. A combination of family trusts descending from the daughters and additional investors have curated the Estate over the centuries, creating the impressive array of buildings and distinct culture of this area of East Mayfair. Norges Bank Investment Management –Norway’s Sovereign wealth fund which purchased a £381m (64.2%) stake in the Estate from The Church Commissioners in 2014.

Savile Row remains the global centre for bespoke tailoring and The Pollen Estate continues to promote the Row as a destination for high class mens and womenswear. The Concours on Savile Row is a project conceived by Hothouse Media and The Pollen Estate to promote the bespoke craftsmanship that flourishes amongst the tailoring houses and the synergies these hold with bespoke car brands.

Savile Row tailors

The tailors

There have been tailors on Savile Row since 1803, and they’ve clothed kings, princes, heads of state and celebrities ever since.

It was on Savile Row that Henry Poole invented the dinner jacket, or tuxedo, for the future Edward VII in 1860. Much more recently, the Row has featured in the Kingsman movies.

Now tradition meets cutting-edge design, and at Concours on Savile Row you’ll be able to see historic patterns, current designs and fascinating cutting rooms.
